Blind

Maybe the world would be
Better
If we were
Blind
If our eyes saw only the
Dark chambers which
Reside silently
Behind our painted
Eyelids
Our vision limited to the
Complex mazes and words within our
Minds
Never to see the color and
The beauty around us
The plants and life and
Sky and sea
Never to see the rain or snow or
Another’s understanding
Eyes
For
We do not deserve these things
We do not deserve these
Phenomenal gifts because
We label people
Instantly
With a single
Scrutinizing glance
Black
White
Rich
Poor
Beautiful
Ugly
Stupid
What use are eyes if
We only use them to
Judge?
An obligation that is
Not even ours to
Carry?
To judge
Not even
Justly?
To destroy others’
Sense of worth and to
Deprive them of love
Confidence and
Safety?
The eyes corrupt the heart
They make it
Hate
And wrench all of its goodness
Away with
Claws of laughing
Remorseless
Jagged
Steel
For humanity cannot accept
That which is different
Whether it finds it
Valuable or
Useless
It torments the unique being and
Tears it down
Leaves it to
Rot away
Sobbing and
Alone
On the heartless and
Bitterly cold
Ground
If we didn’t have eyes
Maybe our souls wouldn’t lie
Maybe our compassion wouldn’t
Die
Our thoughts might stay
Up high in an
Innocent
Light light blue
Cloudless
Sky
Pure and untainted by
Jealously
Apathy and
Loathing
Those powerful emotions which are fueled by
Nothing
Nothing but
Empty thoughts with
Fragments of contempt swirling about
Tainting all things which
Breathe
We murder without
Meaning
We kill because
We simply love to
Destroy
Maybe the world would be better
If we were
Blind
Maybe if we didn’t have eyes
We’d remember to
Stop to
Love and
Above all
Truly
See

    1. Thank you very much, Mark! I’m just very frustrated with the world at this point. It’s heartbreaking. Being on here reminds me there are still good, compassionate people left. Have a great day!
